We drove to the Bonifatu forest for our first day of walking, aiming for the refuge at Carrozzu.
We set off at 1pm along a forestry track. Most of the walk was a steady climb on rocky paths. We paused for lunch by a stream, and used a very rickety bridge to cross another. All the way there were beautiful views of the red-rocked landscape. After a tiring uphill struggle for the last 20 minutes, we reached the snowy refuge (1270m) at 3.45. Downhill was much easier, and we got back to the car at around half past five.
Jeremy drove back to the Super U where we stocked up with food.
We had dinner at Marly's, which had an excellent menu at 80FF (no Euro price) - and went back home for coffee.
